Organic Entrepreneurship

As we continue to weather what many have labeled “the Great Recession,” many entrepreneurs are finding success just beyond their reach. Acquiring loans and attracting investors seems nearly impossible, and once a business launches, it’s difficult to both maintain excellence and turn a profit. Yet, innovators like Hans Hess have found a way to thrive amid it all. This burger visionary—named one of “40 under 40” by Washington Business Journal—shares why he believes the marketplace is ripe for entrepreneurs who are willing to combine sound business with solutions to our world’s problems.

Hans Hess is the founder of Elevation Burger Franchise Ventures and is a founding partner of enviroCAB. He began his career as a fund-raiser for an internationally active non-profit. As he became interested in public policy and its relationship to business, he became a legislative aid to a member of the House of Representatives in Washington DC. Later, he worked as a real estate consultant and planner, helped to develop over $3 billion of mixed-use projects using public, private and public/private financing mechanisms. In 2005, after three years of research and planning, Mr. Hess founded Elevation Burger to be a restaurant specializing in healthier fast food as a desire to create a guest-oriented business that gives back to the community in a tangible way.
