Responding to Our Fatherhood Crisis
by
Roland Warren
The federal government spends $100 billion dollars every year on programs such as child support enforcement and anti-poverty efforts directed at supporting father-absent homes. What happened to fatherhood in America? Over 25 million children live apart from their biological fathers—contributing to poor maternal and infant health, incarceration, crime, teen pregnancy, child abuse, drug and alcohol abuse and lack of education. How can Christians address this crisis?

How can Cristians address this crisis??? Why does it have to be religion-centric? You ever stop to think that sometimes it's the mothers who are superficial and who's lives are influenced by what they see on TV?? What about how Father's Day is convienently tucked away during the summer break when all the children are on vacation and we (society) don't have to address it in school? What about how there is no punishment or penalties for getting a divorce?? It's a winning proposition for the mothers- take the money without any real accountability as to how it's spent on the children! Even moreso- where is is the shame in getting a divorce? What kind of example are you setting for yourself/family and least of all, your children??
Yes- I'm venting. While I appreciate your efforts, there is very little "Christians" can and will do if they hear the message for one hour on Sunday, if they're encoraged to forget about it and not do anything about it the rest of the week.
Think about it! Well- to my point- do something about it!

Brooks,
It doesn't HAVE to be a religion-centric activity. The question asked was how Christians could address this. Someone might ask, how can an elderly group of citizen's address this? Of perhaps, how can a group of sheep hearders from Montana help to address this. Mr. Warren is simply encouraging a community he is deeply involved in to help address the issue. Nothing wrong with that.
Mike
We're a relatively new foster family, and literally EVERY single call (well over 30) we've gotten has involved kids with absent dads. On the other side, over 95% of the calls have included addicted moms.
