Reducing Abortion
by
Q Panel
Christians throughout history have sought to support the flourishing and protection of life. Centuries before Roe v. Wade, the early church battled infanticide in the Roman Empire. Christians, however, aren’t the only ones who care about reducing abortions. The number of abortions performed in America has decreased over the past decade while public opinion for pro-life policies has risen. This Q Panel considers creative and practical solutions to protect the most vulnerable.
This panel was moderated by

. The panelists include
Jenell Paris
, professor of anthropology at Messiah College in Grantham, PA;
Sarah Brown
, CEO of The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy;
Angie Weszely
, President of Caris, a faith-based nonprofit providing support to all women facing unplanned pregnancies;
and
Johnny Carr
, National Director of Church Partnerships for Bethany Christian Services, America's largest adoption agency.
1. In the effort to articulate a holistic approach to reducing abortions within the American church, our panelists presented several different approaches (a renewed theology of sex and chastity, discussing contraception use among singles in the church, crisis pregnancy care, and adoption). How do you think local churches should approach the problem of abortion within the pews?
2. Contraception hasn't always been accepted within the church (Catholic and Evangelical), even for married couples. What effect do you see this shift having on our collective sexual ethics?
