Church
Prodigals, Nomads, and Exiles
by
David Kinnaman
No previous generation has experienced such dramatic, compounded cultural change. With that as the backdrop, the faith journeys of the next generation are playing themselves out. Millions are cutting their connection to church—and even their faith—during their young adult years. Kinnaman will describe the three types of spiritual journeys that young people take, how their anti-institutional mindset is different than that of young adults in the past and how organizations and churches could respond effectively to today’s prodigals, nomads and exiles.

I'd be interested to see results for the UK - which is a much more secularised society than the US

I am so loving this! For first time in a long time I have faith to see Christians living the gospel of the Kingdom in a truly "Jesus style" Just believe people are somewhere in the "Process" of coming to know Him, may we be portraing Him, His love, His style. Blessings, iamforya

I am a father of four 20 somethings. My children have grown up in the church and I have one prodical, one nomad, and a couple exiles. They are not alone...it's heartbreaking to see so many who have left their "parent's faith" and are wandering to find their own spiritual identity. Unfortunately, some are finding it in places other than in their Creator. I currently work in a church in a support role in technology and have a burning desire to connect with this younger generation...to do my part in building a discipling culture. Besides continuing to love my children, my target has been young people with a passion in technology. I am grateful for the research which precipitated "Unchristian" and "The Next Christians". I am anxious to read "You Lost Me" and share/spread the word. It is my prayer that more parents will become educated about the state of our younger generation and see that there is hope...hope that will bring about restoration...hope that will serve as a catalyst to get involved in mentoring and discipling a younger generation that is longing for significance and establishing purpose in the world. I applaud Q for being on the front lines of Kingdom restoration and communicating Biblical truth around the globe.

Extremely important topic...backed by solid research...presented in a compelling way. The church has no excuse and she cannot say, "No one ever told us?" Thanks David for this landmark work.

I once was young, but now am old and yet, I totally identify with the mindset of our young people today. I have been a minister and educator most of my adult life so I have been with young people these many years. I too might be considered an Exile. I have given up on the institutional church, but feel that I am closer to Jesus now than I have ever been. I can relate to Him in a way that is genuine and have that closeness with Him that I never had while attending or ministering in the traditional church. I currently gather with other out of church folks, and am very interested in finding a way to connect with today's young adults in a venue that is more to their liking. That is what i am asking God to reveal to me. If the institution can find a way to bring the young back then that is good, but I have no confidence in that happening as it is so slow to change and cannot relate to this generation in a way that is meaningful and has value to them. I am confident that our Lord will show us the way if we will seek Him and His heart for this generation.
