Being Provoked to Engage
by
Jo Saxton
For decades, it’s been described as “holy” and “disciplined” for Christians to remove themselves from anything corrupt, evil or broken about society. But Christians are left wondering how to navigate the terrain of being salt and light in a twenty-first century world. How are followers of Christ called to respond to sin and corruption found all around them? Do we run towards it or preserve our purity and holiness in the midst of a fallen world?

Amazing, inspiring, and challenging. Thanks you so much.

I've got to say this is the reason we minister the way we do at my church. We have come to see that we have to get our hands dirty if we want to reach the lost. We remember that at one time someone reached into the mire and pulled us out.
At first i thought i would need a degree at a bible school to do this work of being Good news to people. i see now that all i have to do is let salvation shine outward and show it in tangible ways to those in my circle of influence.

We who are God's children of the new birth are not called by Him to remake society. Society is more deeply corrupt than we can repair. We really aren't, although we are to be compassionate in an humbler way. We boomers were seduced by all the talk about how we were going to change the world. Within a few years, we were traipsing up to the Reagan White House, "engaging culture." We are being seduced away from Jesus, who is the only one who will be able to really recreate a just, even honest culture for the earth, when He returns. All of these very attractive programs are superficial at best, and often turn out to be deeply corrupt, as anything that seduces us away from Jesus can only be.
