An Ethic for Advertising
As much as we hate to love
Mad Men's Don Draper, we also hate to love the medium he creates. The Ad. Most of us have an ambiguous relationship with advertising. We take photos in Times Square, surrounded by massive neon display boards and yet complain about the pollution of billboards on suburban streets. We applaud a creative ad, even as we deeply mistrust its message. So, can advertising be good? Valuable even? Or is it just a necessary evil?
