As we ponder the New Year, it’s no secret that our lives are too busy. If we don’t become more efficient, produce more, get ahead and stay ahead then it seems our culture will leave us behind. But as our outer lives continue to expand and upgrade, our inner lives are lost and neglected. We may be living for the Kingdom, but are we creating space for our hearts to live with the King?
On February 28-29th, 2012, Q hosts its next limited event in New York City, Q SESSIONS | PRACTICES, featuring Eugene Peterson—renowned pastor, author, scholar and poet. While many have read his works—most notably The Message and Practicing the Resurrection—few understand the depths of wisdom he has acquired after spending his life living theology instead of only thinking about it.
This two-day intimate environment designed for only ninety-nine leaders will platform Eugene’s lessons from living a “long obedience in the same direction.” Gabe Lyons will host each session through a format of personal conversations with Eugene followed by the unique opportunity to interact with Eugene in Question and Answer. Throughout this intentional schedule, time will be given for reflection, group interaction and new commitments that will allow the practices discussed to become practical realities in daily life.
For followers of Jesus on a mission to create, renew and influence culture, the tendency to strive and fill our days with business is tempting. We spend ourselves to make a difference but in the midst of all our tireless work, it is easy to drift away from the foundation of our faith. Without even noticing it, we become disconnected from God and our rootedness in our First Love. As a select participant in Practices, you will:
- Discover ways to practice the Sabbath in a culture that values productivity
- Uncover the power of simplicity in a consumer-driven economy that says more is better
- Discover the blessings of managing technology and enjoying intentional solitude
- Recover the joy of being immersed in scripture instead of overwhelmed by entertainment
- Discover how to live a rhythm of prayer amid the busyness of modern pressures and life
- And much, much more…
Real, lasting cultural renewal is only possible when leaders are equally committed to personal renewal. This facet of our lives must be cultivated in order to sustain what God may want to do in our lifetimes. On February 28th, ninety-nine cultural leaders will have the opportunity to learn from a sage on cultivating their inner life. Will you commit to learning how to better live your life with the King?
